Mimilove

This week I was the lucky recipient of a fantastic piece(s) of art by a very talented artiste I have been privileged enough to come into contact with and get to know....the Fabulous Mimilove
As an avid browser of Etsy and flickr I happened upon this artists work and was instantly a fan, her pieces cover so many aspects that I look for in artwork that is very rarely addressed. They have vivid colour, texture, humor and great composition showing a fun and flirty but clearly talented technique.

The combination of colour, both in the painted and then stitched details are amazing and the impact of these pieces in person are nothing less than fantastic.
This all started a few months ago...To my amazement after some mutual messages and flattery Mimilove asked if I would be interested in a swap...Well, I was both excited and nervous at the same time but didn’t hesitate in saying yes, and she was then wonderfully patient with me while I got my proverbial S*#T together.

I have to say also that I am the first recipient in this mutual swap and Mimilove is still showing her awesome patients with me, who is still stitching...."Its coming Mimi, I promise!"
Anyway…. enough about me, back to the talented Mimilove.
I also wanted to point out the fantastic thought and personalization that goes into her art pieces.
For me Mimi painted a Woodsman spider(I love spiders and all things crawly) The woodsman is a native spider to both Australia and Japan, as am I.
There are also multiple references to Japan in the form of little Godzillas or as they are now aptly named Mimizillas, a hello kitty and the list goes on.

As if that wasnt enough........She even included this one as a  little gift....its  like Christmas!

So a great big thank you to you Mimilove!!! I love my new artworks.....You Rock lady!
If you would like to see more of Mimiloves awesome work,  and why wouldnt you? you can stalk her at these places, I do!

New Toy!!!

Ha ha... No not that kind of toy silly.

Today I was a bad boy and invested a lot into a long time honored art called procrastination, like all arts it takes time, effort, diligence and quite often money....

Whilst I was busily stitching away this morning I got a call from my cool American friend asking if I was busy, now while I was diligently saying "Yes, I 'm crazy busy today" I also found myself asking if he had, had lunch and saying that I could come and meet him... I’m so good at this procrastination it's like second nature.

After lunch and much chatting I found myself talking about bikes(bicycles) and how I wanted one to get around, to my surprise we found a bike shop, low and behold the bike I wanted was there and  wasn't nearly as expensive as I thought it would be. WOO HOO!
I have coveted these bikes since I came to Japan and have been saving for one for some time now...before I knew it my wallet was out and the bike was mine...procrastination wins again!

Four hours later  after just heading out for lunch I came home with a brand spanking shiny new bike.
Ha! Isn’t she a beauty...

Now, I know this wasn't  a craft related topic but I was very excited and wanted to share…

Thanks for reading

A Fishy Bribe

With giveaways such a big topic in the blogging world right now; the focus being on whom these promotions really benefit, the artist or the blogger… I have decided that since I am both; I get a double scooping of benefit… and it also benefits you the reader.

My thoughts on the mater, well I have decided are very much beside the point however you might get an idea of my colour on the subject from my blog title….and it is exactly that, which I am gonna do…buy friends! anyway I like to give people things when I can.

I offer 1 Piranha to the first 5 people to follow my blog, the catch is you have to follow my blog then click over to my shop Monsterosity, pick out the Piranha you would like then come back here and post your choice colour in the comments with a friendly hello.

Easy right?!

If you would like to read more on the interesting topic of giveaways and who they really work for drop into poppytalk, it is a very interesting topic and a great blog to read.

First time blogger

Ok, so many of my friends have been telling me I should start a blog, the first and foremost reason being, to let people know a little bit about me and my part of the crafty world.
Add to that the on going discussions on the Etsy forums about how important it is to have a blog for promotion of your art and business...and I have finally been suckered.

So after months of thinking, reading and hearing about blogging I have decided to shake it to the left and shack it to the right and give it a go, I hope to update once a week with little bits of information on my life as a craftsman, my family, life in Japan, my art and the funny little road that has lead me to this point in my life. I am also keen to write about my fellow craftsmen and there wonderful art.

As this is the first blog for me I am also open to any questions or suggestions you may have as the reader to keep this blog interesting and fun to read....

Please stay tuned and watch this space...

over and out!
